Updates to Scope of Practice

Virtual Seminars: 2026 Scope of Practice Updates

March 2026

Hello OCC Instructor and Field Leader,

Heads up: a new Scope of Practice requirement for Field Leaders leading in Class Two terrain will become mandatory in 2026. It is critically important that all Instructors and Field Leaders have a clear understanding of these changes to ensure safe and consistent delivery of programs.

We are offering virtual seminars to present the information. A recording will be made available, and it is best to attend live to get your questions answered. You only need to attend one session:

INSTRUCTOR SESSION: Tuesday, March 24 @ 7:00 – 8:00 PM MT

FIELD LEADER SESSION: Tuesday, April 7 @ 10:00 – 11:00 AM MT

FIELD LEADER SESSION: Wednesday, April 8 @ 5:30 – 6:30 PM MT

FIELD LEADER SESSION: Tuesday, April 21 @ 7:00 – 8:00 PM MT

In these meetings, we will review:

  • The reasons for the change
  • What the new scope of practice means for you
  • New materials to support your learning
  • Questions and concerns

Attendance for Instructors earns 20 CPD points, applicable to ‘Days for personal certification course’ or ‘Days at one or more conference’ categories. Attendance for Field Leaders earns 5 CPD points, applicable to ‘Having taken part in other professional development opportunities related to outdoor leadership’ category.

To prepare, we encourage you to review the updated document before your session.

Thank you for taking the time to stay informed and ensure your teaching aligns with the upcoming standards.
