Field Leader (Hiking) Course – May 5th & 10th
May 5 @ 8:30 am - 4:30 pm PDT
$195
This Outdoor Education workshop is open to any teacher looking to expand their knowledge, skills and practices in leading students of all ages in outdoor field trips. It is a 2-day certification course offered through the Outdoor Council of Canada and upon completion will provide you with a Field Leader (Hiking) certificate.
Field Leader courses provide the following foundational aspects of outdoor leadership; mindful leadership, participant-centered experiences, intentional programming, systematic planning, team building, effective communication, and learning through reflection.
The dates for the full course are Monday, May 5 & Saturday, May 10. It is a regulated 16-hr course through the OCC and runs 8:30am-4:30pm each day.
Please note: Day 1 is a theory day in the classroom at Sutherland Secondary. Day 2 is a field day on the trails in North Vancouver. More information will be provided prior to the course.
*If teachers are interested to participate in the ProD session on May 5th only, they have this option. It would provide you with the theoretical framework of outdoor field trips, but would not grant you certification through the OCC.
Program costs can be reimbursed through the NVTA ProD fund for members. Accessed here: https://nvta.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/24-NVTA-REQUEST-FOR-PD-FUNDS-FILLABLE-Sep-3.pdf
All information regarding the course will be sent out to participants after registration.
