Outdoor Council of Canada Field Leader Course (Hiking)

Are you looking to increase your knowledge and confidence while leading others in an outdoor setting?
If so, you should consider taking the Outdoor Council of Canada Field Leader Course.

Day one of the course will be:
– Classroom based, approximately 7-8 hours and will consist of reviewing OCC course components, exploring some case studies and being involved in various activities.

Day two of the course will be:
– Field training on a trail approximately 6 hrs. Participants will prepare their trip plan for the hike as ‘homework’ the night before and will be expected to ‘guide’ the group, when and where indicated by the instructor. Some components covered on the trail will be Last Minute Checks, Situational Awareness, Field Lunch, Tarp Set-up, Unexpected Situations and Reflection.

At the end of the course participants will take a multiple-choice test to see if they qualify to receive their certification.

**Prior to the course, participants will receive the OCC manual and will be expected to read it and to complete the quizzes prior to Day 1 of the course.

Course Dates: September 23-24, 2023
Brandon Sportsplex (Day 1)
Spruce Woods Provincial Park (Day 2)

Participants must be 18+ to enrol.
Max group size is 10

Cost $215 and include:
– Hard copy of the OCC manual given at the course.
– Nationally recognized outdoor leadership certification
– One year membership to OCC
– Connected to resources and outdoor leaders from across Canada
– Able to operate guided tours in a three-season context (just not winter)
