Field Leader (Hiking) Edmonton Course
November 1 @ 6:00 pm - November 2 @ 6:00 pm MDT
$150This 2-day, 14-hour course is for leaders taking people into simple hiking terrain or outdoors. The focus is on building the skills required to plan and deliver a quality experience for your group on an outdoor trip, while staying safe and being prepared. Successful graduates will be certified as a Field Leader (Hiking) and will be included in the national Outdoor Council of Canada Field Leaders Registry.
This is a great accreditation for teachers, camp staff, community leaders, and aspiring guides.
This course is focused on hiking leadership for low-risk hikes and other land-based activities, but the skills learned will be directly transferable to leading groups in every conceivable outdoor environment. So while the terrain is aimed at beginner leaders, experienced leaders looking to refresh, certify, or reality-check their skills will have much to learn and are very welcome. This course is aimed at beginner leaders, so we do not expect you to be an ‘expert hiker’. We will be spending a few hours outside each day, but we will not walk more than about 4 km over easy trails.
